December 13, Newsletter

For those of you that can come, our Kindergarten Holiday Program will be from 10:30 - 10:55 in our classroom tomorrow, December 14th.    We will sing songs, recite poems and enjoy some cookies together.  The program is taking the place of a party as I feel a party on top of a program is just too much.  On Thursday, we are invited to the gym for a sing along with the first graders and Mr. B., our music teacher.  This is just for our class and it is not a family affair.  The rest of the day is a regular school day.

Progress reports will be posted this Thursday.

Thanks, and Happy Holidays,
Mrs. Harris

December 6th, 2011

Newsletter for December 6th.

I wanted to post this newsletter before Thursday to give you time to plan for next week.  On Wednesday, December 14, we will have a Holiday Program in our classroom.  We will sing songs and recite poems that we have been working on in the classroom and in music.   Everyone is invited to attend.

I am assessing this week and next week during reading groups so reading groups will not look like they usually do.  I will have a substitute tomorrow so I can assess all morning. The progress I am seeing in your child is very encouraging.   Keep up the reading at home......it shows.

I want to thank Mrs. Stark for all of her help with organizing fun food for the classroom!  We have had popcorn to share with our reading buddies, and most recently, gingerbread men for each child to eat, and write about, and one enormous gingerbread man for our classroom.  He did run away from us today, while we were in music, and we are going to look for him tomorrow. :(  Thank you Mrs. Stark!  You are the best!!

November 16th

Count down for Thanksgiving in Kindergarten.  Only five days until our Thanksgiving Program.  (Please see bottom of newsletter for more information about our program)

Please note, that your child is to bring a baggie of something to mix into our Thanksgiving Chex Mix.  This is something I do every year and the kindies love it.  We sit on the floor, give thanks for our food and everyone adds his/her contribution to the bowl.   Then, your kindie will sort, count, graph, compare and then, of course, eat our unique chex mix.  This is a math treat for us to share in the morning, before the program, so it is important that your child bring it first thing in the morning.

Specials this week - P.E.  Next week - Art

Please remember to read with your child every night.  I cannot stress how important this is.  So,  read, read, read even during break.

Parents,
I copied and pasted information about an easy way to support Saddle Ranch.
Dear Saddle Ranch Community:

With the recent failure of 3A and 3B, we have begun running different budget scenarios and preparing for significant budget reductions for the 2012-2013 school year.  While we will not have official numbers to work with until February/March, we are already planning and developing a strategic, proactive approach to soften the impact of the looming budget reductions.  Over the past two weeks, we have partnered with our Parent Teacher Involvement Organization (PTIO) to begin this proactive approach to our fundraising efforts this year.  The following two fundraising efforts will bring in additional funds directly to our school, while not asking our parent commuity to spend additional money.  We are just asking you to change the way you spend your money.

(1) King Soopers Reloadable Cards
If you are a King Soopers shopper, you can get a reloadable card to use to purchase your groceries.  5% of the amount you load on the card will come directly back to Saddle Ranch on a monthly basis.  Load the card at guest services using cash, check or credit card before you start your shopping and then use the card to make your purchase.  To get your card, please bring a $5 check made payable to SRE with you starting after school on Thursday, November 17th.  The card comes pre-loaded with $5, so there is no additional cost to you, but is a huge benefit to our school!  We will have parent volunteers answering questions and selling the cards before/after school at tables outside of the school through Tuesday, November 22nd.  We are hoping that you will pick up a card before you do all of your Thanksgiving holiday grocery shopping.  Please keep in mind that this card is reloadable and can be used over and over again!

(2) Scrip Gift Cards
Before you do any holiday shopping or any purchasing of gift cards in general, please consider purchasing gift cards through the PTIO.  Look for more information coming soon about the Scrip program, which gives a percentage of gift card purchases directly back to Saddle Ranch.  There is an extensive list of retailers that we will be sending out shortly!

Although we know that these fundraising efforts will not solve our budget issues, nor does it provide a long-term solution, however, it can help soften the impact!  We are attempting to be proactive and strategic in our preparation of the tough road ahead.  We truly appreciate your support of Saddle Ranch.

Gratefully,
Mandy Leensvaart & Linda Jones

November 9, 2011

50's Day and our Halloween parade and party were so much fun!  Please see previous posts for lots of fun pictures.  I do believe you can print from the blog.  A big, Thank you, to all of the mom helpers that made both days fabulous.  I could not do any of these fun things without your help.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.

We do have a  big event coming up this month.  For Thanksgiving, I do not have a huge feast because I feel that this is a very busy time for families and I do not want to add any stress during the holidays.  I do, however, want you to enjoy your precious kindie singing songs and reciting poetry and performing a "Classic," Thanksgiving play.  You are in for a real treat!  On, Tuesday, November 22, at 10:30, we would like to invite you to our Thanksgiving Performance.

Where?  Our classroom
When?   10:30 - 10:55

Also, on November 22, please send your child to school with a baggie with a dry ingredient for adding to our Chex Mix.  Examples of items to send in a bag:  chex mix, pretzels, m & m's, raisins, dried cranberries, popcorn, small marshmallows, chocolate chips, goldfish....but please remember, NO NUTS.  We will mix this together in a big bowl and have our own Thanksgiving feast.  We will sort it, count it, and then of course, eat it!

___________
I can tell that you are reading with your kindie at home and he/she is making huge strides of improvement in his/her reading.  Treasure this time with your child because it is truly magical watching him/her
learn to read.  What a gift.........

Our special this week was music, next week we will have p.e.

In math we are counting by 2's and 5's.
